Michael Deriaz – Oral History Project

BLUE COAT’S WINDOW ON THE PAST, by the people who were there

Interviewers: Christine Holt and Peter Elson

Transcript

Michael Deriaz, born 1958: When Mike arrived the School was in transition under Headmaster Peter Arnold Craft (PAC), who took over in 1968. PAC spotted a gap in the market for parents who wanted a grammar school-style education as Quarrybank and the Liverpool Institute went comprehensive. The new intake in lower forms expected to get plenty of O Levels (GCSEs) and older boys were not in same mould. Mike read English Lit at New College, Oxford. After heading the accounts dept at an international investment bank he quit to set up charity inspired by his Blue Coat gap year reaching in Kenya.
