The Ministry of Education’s fascinating HMI 1961 report of Blue Coat School details the school’s adjustment after entering the mainstream education system in 1949, becoming boys only for the first time in 241 years and admitting day pupils. It predicts the school “will grow into one of highly individual character”, which has surely been fulfilled.
